b) physical characteristics
c) ecological characteristics
  • The basic motions of ocean water are the waves, currents, and tides.
  • Physical characteristics (depth, salinity, and temperature) of the ocean affect where marine organisms can live.
The Magic School Bus took an animated field trip to the beach to allow viewers to vicariously experience the tidal zones through the adventures of Ms. Frizzle, her class, and the class lizard, Liz in "The Magic School Bus Goes to Mussel Beach." In this episode of the longest running science series for children, the tides, shoreline crustaceans, underwater communities, and choosing the right place to live are discussed.
